We've had a good trip so far. Yesterday was nuts. The movers came and unloaded all of our stuff from the first truck to a second one, which will take our belongings to Charleston. Of course, before it makes it to our home on Evening Shade, it will make stops in southern Kansas City, the OK/KS border, Alabama, then to our house. Yikes! Hope no one ends up with our stuff along the way.
While they were loading and unloading, Jasen and I were cleaning like mad men. Due to my friend, Katie's, recent experience moving, we knew the oven, stove, and 'fridge needed to be spotless. Believe me, they were!! So much so that the lady inspecting didn't even look twice at them!! ugh! Jasen made her look at them closer because we'd worked so hard.
By 4:45, we were leaving Fort Riley.
We stopped and had a quick bite in KC, then kept on trucking. We wanted to get a head start so today and tomorrow wouldn't be so long. We ended up staying in Columbia, MO, where Jasen splurged on a suite for us. WOOHOO! Two rooms so no one had to hide out in the bathroom while the kids went to sleep. He did it tonight, too, but I played the Iraq card so we got this one cheaper. Yea for us!
The drive today went very well. Jasen and I are handling "tandem driving" like pros, if I do say so myself. He's behind me in the Fit, alone (slight ugh on my part!), just keeping up with me. We navigated St. Louis with ease, had a little more trouble in Louisville because we hit it at rush hour, then took a scenic tour through downtown Lexington. I had on my A&M shirt today and was planning to stop at Rupp Arena to take a funny picture, but thought better of it.
Tomorrow, we are planning on driving all the way to Charleston. I am not quite sure why, because we have no idea if we have water at the house. If we don't we'll be schlepping to find another hotel, so let's hope we have water!! If not, it's supposed to be checked/turned on Monday, so we'll start staying there then. Our stuff is due to arrive probably Wednesday so we'll have a few days of camping in our new house, but that's okay. We've discovered the kids like an empty house!
Grace and Davis are traveling like professionals. Instead of doing a restaurant stop for lunch, we stopped at rest stop (yes, Mom, Jasen took pictures!) and ate some of the leftover sandwich meat we'd brought with us. The kids got to stretch their legs and play at the park. It was good for them to get some fresh air. Neither one took a nap today, so tonight might not be much fun. They never sleep well if they haven't had some kind of nap! Grace keeps saying "If we were going to TX, we'd be there by now." Very true.
